Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on August 24, 1972, at Long Beach California. DuVernay was encouraged to pursue her love of art by her aunt Denise as a young child. Her first job was as an assistant for CBS News in the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalls being asked to examine the garbage inside the house that belonged to a member of the jury. The work she was assigned to did not leave her satisfied in journalism, so she decided to shift her focus towards the field of publicity. DuVernay was employed by a tiny studio as a junior publicist shortly after graduating from college. Her first venture was The DuVernay Agency, her public relations firm in 1999. Apart from PR, the agency also created a variety of lifestyle and promotional networks including Urban Beauty Collective, the Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
